IARU HF World Championship
-2009-

Bill NA8M, Kirk W8GXT, and Dan N8PPQ decided to work the IARU contest as W8ZHO this year. They operated from the clubhouse for the full 24 hours, racking up 547 QSOs with 75 multipliers for a score of many millions.

The tri-band beam antenna worked well, as did the G5RV. The group decided to use N8PPQ's transciever because it has CW filters, which are essential in pileup situations.
Pictured above is N8PPQ (holding the camera) and NA8M.

N8PPQ (again) and W8GXT are pictured to the left.

Bill worked SSB, Kirk worked CW, and Dan did both. Contacts were logged on all available bands except 160 meters, which was dead.

Tom N8YJT was present too, but did not operate. He came just to help with the club cleanup and to take pictures for Flashovers.

The contest team agreed that the air conditioner that Al KV8X and Jon AB8RD installed last year was *invaluable*. Even with the air on, we appreciated Tom getting us a fan from the shed outisde. The afternoon sun really can warm up that little radio room.

MAARC/W8ZHO Net
W8ZHO MAARC Net Tune into the W8ZHO repeater, 146.94- (94.8) on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM. There will be club announcements and a ham related discussion for each net.

We are looking for a Net Manager, as well as additional Net Controls to share the responsibility of heading this weekly net. This is a great opportunity to learn how to run a net for those who have never tried.

Even if you just want to listen, be sure to check in and let us know you are there. Contact Tom, N8YJT or the Net Control if you are interested in helping make this net a success.
